How to choose a system

The first consideration, other than price, is how you want to monitor the birdhouse activity. There are two options -view on a single TV or computer or through your local wireless network.

If you only need the video to be viewed on a single TV or computer, you can choose the Low-Profile Camera or the Standard Camera.  This camera transmits signal to a receiver located inside the building.  The receiver can then be connected to a TV with A/V cables (supplied) or to a computer with a USB adaptor.

If you would like the camera to be viewed by multiple computers on a network, you will want the IP Camera.  The IP Camera connects directly and securely to a wireless router.  Anyone on the network will be able to login and view the live feed.  It can be password protected for limited access if desired.  The IP camera can also be made available for internet viewing outside the local network.

The IP camera gives a sharper digital picture and will show more color than the analog Low-Profile Camera or Standard Camera.

The next choice would be power.  If you have access to a standard power outlet, (within 100 ft), the AC power cord is your cheapest option.  If there is no power nearby, we offer a Solar Power option.  The Solar kits are not interchangeable between the two systems.  The solar kit for the IP camera is larger and outputs 5V while the analog cameras solar kits are smaller and output 12V.

The transmission range of each camera is up to 100 ft.  The signal will not effectively penetrate brick or masonry wall, but windows will usually help.  These cameras have infrared lights  (LEDs) for viewing in low or no light conditions.
